Key Educational Benefits
- Recognise farm animals early: real photographs help children learn each animal’s features, size and sound.
- Grow vocabulary in Arabic: naming the animals builds vocabulary and encourages children to speak Arabic from an early age.
- Think and talk: the questions on the back of the cards are designed to build your child’s knowledge and stimulate critical thinking.
- Enjoy time together: the cards encourage quality time between child and parent or caregiver.
How to Use the Cards
The cards can be used progressively, depending on your child’s age and ability. Full guidance in English and Arabic is included in the box.
6–12 months
Show a card, point to the animal and say its name, for example: “This is a cow.” Babies and toddlers learn through association, so add the animal’s sound too: “Look, it’s a cow. Moo!” Your child will begin to link the picture with the animal’s name and the sound it makes.
1–2 years
Sit opposite your child so they can see how you pronounce each word. Once your toddler knows the cards, play a guessing game: spread the cards out and ask, “Where is the cow? Moo!” Imitating the sound after the name helps your child recall the animal from memory. From around 18 months, children show a stronger desire to speak and begin to say the animal’s name or the sound it makes.
2 years and above
Talk with your child in Arabic about each animal using the questions on the back of its card, such as where it lives, what it eats and what its young is called. The questions are written in simple Arabic to bridge the gap between Classical Arabic and the Arabic your child speaks every day. An answer card is included in the set.
More Ways to Play
- Say an animal’s name, or make its sound, and ask your child to find the card.
- Ask your child to name the animal in other languages, such as English or French, or see whether they recognise it in another language.
- Ask your child about their own experiences with the animal, using simple questions that need short answers.
- Use the cards to practise letter sounds, and ask your child to think of other words that begin with the same letter.
